Evaluations

Kim offers private independent evaluations for parents and school districts. The sole purpose of an evaluation is to use the information gathered to guide instruction. After the child is evaluated using criterion-referenced tests, a detailed report will be provided. At this appointment the child may be assessed in the following areas:

  • phonological awareness (recognizing sounds in words)

  • decoding (reading)

  • encoding (spelling)

  • fluency (accuracy, speed, and expression)

  • reading comprehension (understanding and interpreting what is read)

  • written expression (content, grammar, and sentence structure)

  • handwriting (letter formation and spacing)

The goal of these assessments is to develop a reading and writing profile for the child. A diagnosis will not be provided. Only a neuropsychologist can diagnose dyslexia.

*All assessments can be done virtually.
